Meeting in Canada, finance ministers of 7 rich countries also took up the European economy.

Finance ministers of developed seven countries gathered in Canada on Friday, February 5, amid worries on European countries’ deepening debt.

The ministers of Germany, France, Italy, the United States, Britain, Japan and Canada discussed adopting a common position to stabilize the global markets and continue recovery. They also took up the latest fluctuation in the European markets.

Hosting the meeting, Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said that they were already talking about the Europe’s debt problems even before all Group of Seven finance ministers and central bankers arrived.

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble tried to tamp down speculation that the 16-nation Eurozone faced serious trouble, and made clear that the European Union was aware of risks and determined to deal with them.

Asian currencies were on the agenda. Several ministers said ahead of the meeting, though how meaningful they could be in China’s absence was up for debate, reports the Reuters News Agency.

On Saturday’s meeting, G7 finance ministers committed to strong reforms and agreed to forgive Haitian debts.

No communiqué will be issued at the conclusion of the G7 gathering, but there will be a joint news conference.
